Finca Dulce Luna is a special offering from the Dulce Luna farm in the Marcala region of Honduras. Grown by Dulce Marlen Contreras and her family, this Red/Yellow Catuai variety is harvested between November and March at an altitude of 1,400 meters above sea level (MASL). This is an exceptional coffee. Each cup overflows with notes of strawberries, cotton candy, and honeycomb.

The woman behind Finca Dulce Luna, Dulce Marlen Contreras, is a strong and compassionate leader with a storied career as a leading voice in the Marcala coffee industry. Dulce founded a female coffee growers cooperative in the 1990’s, and she worked with her husband to create the Denominación de Origen organization to distinguish Marcala coffee from other regions and to promote collective empowerment of local producers.

Most recently, Dulce founded the 18 Rabbit Export company, which she named after the 13th ruler of the Mayans. Her family-run business produces top-rated coffee using biodynamic farming techniques where every decision is made considering biological, spiritual, and social impacts to the people, animals, and land on the farm. Their holistic ecosystem approach creates healthier land that allows their coffee to flourish year after year.

I have been a subscriber since their launch, having been introduced to Better Grounds at a coffee festival. I have enjoyed every monthly selection so far! Their service is a great choice for anyone who, like me, wants easier access great quality coffee and anyone who might feel overwhelmed trying to look into the sourcing bonafides of different brands. I appreciate that they do this work for their clients, and also support different roasters who are doing good work.
